Steve Messina01/07/155 Stars - Dr. John Schmidt is a true professional and a master of his craft. Going to the dentist can be very stressful but Mountain View Family Dental puts you at ease and makes the experience very comforting. The staff is extremely service oriented, attentive and takes the time to get to know you. The new office is very impressive and equipped with the latest dental technology. I highly recommend Dr. John Schmidt and the Mountain View Family Dental Team!Dutch works02/01/151 Stars - Dr. Schmidt gave both my husband and myself devastating prognosis on the condition of our mouths. My husband has a cleft palate and needed help with tooth loss and replacement. Realizing that a cleft palate needs special attention and knowledge Dr. Schmidt could of said I will refer you to an office better suited for your needs. No, his suggestion was "the only thing that would work for you would be to remove all your teeth and get implants, at $26,000! For myself, he informed me that most all of my teeth were not salvageable. I needed to pull all my upper teeth and get a denture or implants. Plus most of my teeth on the bottom were a loss. Total work for my mouth, tens of thousands yet again. Using common sense we both went to see the doctors at CU University of Denver for another opinion. A great thing for every patient to do when being asked to pull a large amount of teeth, and huge costs for replacement. My husbands had two cavities on his lower teeth and other than that all is well. Is upper teeth with the exception of three were a loss, BUT those three were used to help with a plate. The plate was made to fit the cleft. In this case he has a full set of functional teeth for the first time in his life! It has reduced his speech impediment as well as closing the palate to allow him to breath through is nose, again for the first time in his life! Now please take note, no implants needed, and all this work came to a total of $7,000. For me, well one tooth pulled, a partial plate for missing teeth and one fractured tooth on the bottom, that was repaired! Total cost $3,600! Dr. Schmidt if you do not have the ability to help people with in certain medical procedures, just refer them to someone who can. It isn't necessary to scare them to death or take financial advantage of them. You are not a good doctor or a nice person.Tyler Goldberg11/20/145 Stars - I have seen 4 or 5 different dentists during my time in Denver; none of which were nearly as informative, effective, or as thorough as Dr. Schmidt. He truly cares about his patient's well being, which we all know is truly rare in the scam-ridden dentistry-space. He implements the most current and forward-thinking technologies in his practice. Dr. Schmidt also provided my family with phenomenal surgeon recommendations in addition to taking care of our dental needs. Given dentists normally have their eyes on your pocket books, it is refreshing knowing Dr. Schmidt strays from the beaten path.Jen Marie10/03/141 Stars - I am not happy at all with the service I got in this office and will never go back! I came in for a new patient visit and met with Dr. Schmidt. He initially came off very thorough as I sat there he stated he is a very visional and will always make sure his patients know what is going on with their treatment. We went over the x-rays with me and stated there were no cavities showing. Then after he examined my mouth, telling his assistant some dental terms to record in my file, he was gone. His assistant then discussed scheduling for procedures which confused since Dr. Schmidt had communicated to me of any problems. His assistant then told me that I had 4 cavities and that I also needed a crown. I asked to speak with Dr. Schmidt again since we had just gone over my x-rays and did not say anything. After speaking with him the 2nd time he explained that the 4 cavities were too small to see on the x-rays. I have not had a cavity since I was 4 years old and I have always gone in every 6 month for check-ups. The assistant did take digital photos of the teeth Dr. Schmidt recommended work on however it did not look to me anything was wrong. I left the office without scheduling any further appointments due to the uneasy feeling I had. I scheduled a 2nd opinion appointment with a dentist who was highly recommended by friends and family but was a bit of a drive. I requested my record from Dr. Schmidt’s office two weeks before my 2nd opinion visit and never received anything. I followed up and they did email me the x-rays but when I asked for the entire file they now want to charge me $15 per image and would not email the file to me. I think this guy is a crook and is only worried about money. Patients beware!! **New developments after review** The 2nd opinion dentist did not agree with the Dr. Schmidt’s diagnosis. After he completed his dentist exam and gave me his professional opinion I then told him about Dr. Schmidt’s diagnosis. I did not tell the 2nd opinion dentist before so that I knew my exam would be independent. I specially asks him about the so called problems identified by Dr. Schmidt. He then re-examined me and advised he found nothing of concern and would not recommend any dental work. This put me at ease. I am still upset Dr. Schmidt’s business practices. I also asked around Brighton and was told by a couple of other ex-patients of Dr. Schmidt that he had suggested unwarranted dental work for them as well. I guess I did not do my homework prior to attending the appointment because I did find review from other patients similar to my experience. He is in a position of trust and it is sad that he is abusing it. After I wrote the original review above I received an email from Dr. Schmidt to my personal email which I provided in my dental file for purposes of my dental health. I find this highly unprofessional for him to use this personal information however not surprised considering Dr. Schmidt’s prior behavior. The professional manner would have been to respond within this review forum. Dr. Schmidt stated he “never make treatment decisions for a patient.” A patient is making their decision based on his diagnosis and if he is suggesting unwarranted dental work that is unacceptable. This was a huge life lesson for me; make sure you do your homework because there are a lot of shady people like Dr. Schmidt in this world.Cheryl M. Baker, OD02/13/145 Stars - Wonderful practice! I have been to Mountain View Family Dental four times, and I have always had a great experience. The staff in very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Not to mention that the hygienist I saw gave me the most thorough cleaning that I have had in years! Dr. Schmidt is an excellent dentist -- he takes the time to explain everything well, and provides his recommendations without pressuring you. I highly recommend this dental practice!
