5 Stars - Beautiful, romantic, and expressive asian infused atmsohpere. Arrived for sushi, but left full and wanting to return to try more. Dined on a crowded Friday evening, noise level a bit high but the food surpassed the discomfort. $80 meal w/ wine for 2. Definitely will return for another special night out.
2 Stars - I went to Takumi tonight with my husband. The decor was really nice and after seeing the menu prices, I expected much more than what we got. The meat quality was not great, the sauce was too sugary, the sushi tasted fine but nothing spectacular. The food came out too fast for what we ordered. This indicates that a lot of the food was already made and not fresh. For $20-30 per entree, I would have expected them to take the time to do it right. Overall the quality was equal to take-out/delivery Chinese. I would have given them up to three stars if they didn't give the false impression that they were a fancy restaurant. Two stars for duping us, I say.
To make matters worse, my husband and I were both physically sick shortly after we left the restaurant. We will not be going back there. I feel ripped off.
5 Stars - I've been eating here for a little over a year now. It's a nice change for Delaware which is mostly chain-restaurants. Also one of the few places I've found that has both Kirin and Sapporo on draft. I've recommended Takumi to several co-workers who all have enjoyed their meals here. I also usually end of taking most of my out-of-town friends and family here.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. Sometimes I know don't know what I want to order and I will often ask the staff for recommendations. I also enjoy the quiet atmosphere.
I've tried a lot of different menu items (around 20) and have never eaten anything that I did not like. The quality of the food is well worth the price.
The sushi is delicious and I would highly recommend the Orange Blossom. Also make sure to ask if there are any specials (recently there was Alaskan Salmon, Fatty Tuna / Toro and some Japanese oysters). I've also ordered 2 sushi party trays both of which got rave reviews.
I'm not going to list everything I've tried but I would just like to highlight some dishes for those that might feel like ordering something different. Also, you can ask them to make any dish spicier (I'm a big fan of Pad Thai spicy x4).
For starters I would recommend:
Sliced Beef & Tripe (definitely enough for a meal or two people)
Lamb Kushiyaki (on a skewer with onions and red and green peppers)
10 Hour Stew Pork Belly (very thick bacon)
Sweet Potato Pancake
Dan Dan Noodle
Mao Poe Tofu
Seafood Delight with Crispy Rice
Shredded Pork with Bean Curd & Celery
5 Stars - I don't go to many sushi restaurants, but after trying this Asian fusion restaurant, I was completely floored by the quality of their sushi and their outstanding service. I went to Japan a few weeks ago and came back wondering if I will ever eat anything similar or close to what I ate in Japan. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sushi chefs at Takumi made foods that were authentic to what I ate in Japan. Eating their sushi, bento boxes, and other Japanese dishes really made me feel that I was back in Japan. If you really want to know what authentic Japanese food tastes like, go to Takumi!
I also feel the service at Takumi is superb. The waiters/waitresses always made sure that I was satisfied and well attended. The restaurant always makes a tremendous effort in ensuring that you are satisfied. I feel really well-cared for at Takumi.
Lastly, if you get a chance, try their Chinese food. The Chinese chefs there really know how to make authentic Szchuan dishes. I can't think of a better places to get the best Japanese and spicy Chinese dishes than this place.
I would give this place ten stars if possible. =)
4 Stars - Good clean place to eat, the first time there they weren't busy but this time it was a Friday night around 8pm and it was pretty busy. We were still able to get a table. Even thought it was busy, we got our food in 10 mins. The beef and tripe was good and spicy. The ramen was good, looked like noodles, pork and an egg in miso soup but was still good. Got a few rolls of sushi. Good drinks and beer too.
