OK. So first of all if you are broke with no money at all and no experience at all then the school is really not a bad idea. It will get you your CDL and experience that you need to move onto a better company. Now for the bad. If you have any experience at all then do not even waste your time with this company. They promise you a rate per mile and sign on bonus and orientation pay and when you get there it all changes. They also tell you that you will be staying in a hotel and when you go half way across the country and get there, they will put you in dorms with the students. The issues with the dorms are that the entire dorma are infested with mold and mildew. I get sick about once every 5 years. I was there for 2 days and get a chest infection because of the powerful mold/mildew issue. Another issue is that they are so very unorganized. The recruiters will tell you anything to get you there and when you get there they tell you that you don't get a sign on bonus, you don't get orientation pay, and they will try to change your rate of pay. Now not me but numerous guys that had 10+ years of experience were told that they have to take a refresher course once they got there. And by the way they don't pay you while you are there. I do not have a perfect driving record however I asked my recruiter about 10 times if they can hire me and told my cruiter every single thing that was on my record. I rode the greyhound bus from the eat coast all the way to Iowa and was there for one day and then they told me they could not hire me. And then they even tried to make me pay my way home. The people there are not professional at all. So moral of the story is don't waste your time with them unless you are broke with no experience at all.
How benevolent are they? You tell me. They have a 1.5 billion dollar annual revenue and are not publicly traded but privately owned. They have zero debt and all their belongings are paid for in full. Now let's do the math on this, 4500 trucks or thereabouts every 4 years a quarter of them are replaced that is a total 150 million dollars out of that1.5 billion. Once about every 10 years they build a new property paid for in full let's put that down as another $150,000 out of that 1.5 billion. Are you with me so far? Good. Now we look at driver payroll, do you have approximately 8000 drivers and let's put it at $40,000 a year rounded off give or take. That's $320,000 a year in payroll for the drivers. So far with all these figures they are still making close to a billion dollars a year net profit after those expenses. Now the most I can pay you to start is $0.25 a mile split miles, waiting 72 hours before layover pay, paying you less if your empty then if you're loaded and not paying all miles driven. Sounds to me like the only one benefiting from this company is the owner and the upper echelon of the company. Now you run along and try to have a nice day of that miserable little existence that you're trying to Pawn off as a life. And if you haven't figured out what $0.25 a mile is it comes out to $15 an hour only if the truck is moving 60 miles an hour, so if you're driving in California you don't even make minimum wage for that state. You people are phenomenal stating that this is it company
This is a total scam. After school, the "lead" driver will take you out for a month or two. During that time you earn .12 per mile. After that you get .12 per mile for the next 3 months and then you get .01 per mile raise. Its really an insult. Even if you run the maximum miles you cannot make a living with this company. It is indentured servitude and should be outlawed. I'm stuck with it for another month and then I'm soooo gone.
For aspiring new truck drivers, absolutely do not get your CDL from this company. They are the worst and they make you sign a contract before you even get your license. They will have you working below minimum wage to pay off the amount you owe them for 9 months. That is slavery. For those that say all trucking company lie. CRST is the biggest lie for new drivers you have been warned.
This is really NOT a bad place to work. I am a Lead driver who take student out for 21 days and 10,000 miles . You just can't be a little butter cup and cry about everything.I get paid well making about 1100 a week . Keep the left door shut and roll. Btw it a OTR position so you will not be home every weekend. But when you request hometime you will get it.Just be respectful to your DM and you could do really well here too
