They stand behind their work and will make it right. The problem is, in my experience it was never done right the first time.
My first experience with West Side Tire & Auto was simply to put new tires that I bought from Tire Rack. Gino suggested doing wheel alignment at the same time. I was impressed with the new wheel geometry machine they just installed and Gino's knowledge of the craft, so I decided to buy that extra service. Unfortunately, after the realignment the car was over steering and the steering wheel was off-center. When I pointed that out, Gino personally took the car for a test drive and although he felt there was nothing wrong with it he agreed to redo the alignment at no additional cost. Thankfully, it was done right the second time.
Our second experience was replacing break pads. Once again I got persuaded to replace rotors and breaking fluid at the same time, which would triple the price of the job. To me the rotors were thick enough to keep going, but Gino pointed out a lip that formed on the outer edge of the rotor and claimed that just putting new pads in would make the breaks squeak. He promised to put "high quality stuff" in, so again I bit the bullet and did the whole thing. Sadly, another disappointment. At least one of the breaks was making rustling noises and a rubbery residue was accumulating on the rotor. After a week of driving and no improvement the car had to spend another four hours in the shop when they discovered that the rotor was uneven or something like that, and had to order new ones in. So, I am doubtful about the quality of the materials and I am thoroughly disappointed with only superficial quality assurance on part of the owner.
If you promise top quality it is not enough to make it work, you should make it right and the first time around.
Update: I actually forgot one more very positive experience where they spent a good hour to find a very elusive leak in a tire. Fixed it perfectly where another shop gave up after three attempts. +1 star. I want to love these guys, but I hate wasting time.
Not only they do a great job (I've done oil changes, brakes and wheel stuff) they have an exceptional customer service. Highly recommended
I am a mechanically-inclined auto enthusiast who is exceedingly careful and picky about choosing a shop that not only must be competent and knowledgeable about my specific car, but also honest, reliable and efficient. Over my years of owning and competing with high performance cars from Ms to Vettes to AMGs, I don’t want just a mechanic, but rather a long-term partner to help me attain my particular performance and maintenance goals.
2 years ago, I had just ordered for my AMG a set of high performance tires which I asked my old shop to mount and Road Force balance. After being charged a premium for the install and experiencing vibrations, I learned they had farmed the job out to a gas station across the street that most certainly did not own a Road Force. Researching Tire Rack, I found West Side Tire & Automotive as one of the few shops that performed Road Force balancing, and proceeded to check them out.
On a Saturday morning, owners Gino and his son Gino Jr. greeted me, immediately put my car on the rack, and then asked Tony – their tech specializing in front end work – to work with me. Throughout the process, Tony took his time to show me the before and after results, confirming the poor job the gas station did, including the weights they had sloppily taped to the wrong parts of the rims. Because of Tony’s experience and the Road Force, we also found 1 tire was out of round, which Tire Rack promptly replaced. Needless to say, the previous vibrations were gone.
After this first positive experience, I have since returned to perform progressively more advanced work on my AMG. 3 alignments over 2 years, and every time time Gino and Tony were always happy to accommodate my requested settings. Also, West Side is a shining example of standing behind their work: on the rare occasion I returned to correct a setting, such as perfectly centering the steering wheel, they did so without batting an eye. What really delights me is despite their prices being the most competitive of the many shops I researched, West Side still takes their time to exceed my expectations – every time. This to me is a testament of their integrity and passion for the craft.
Speaking of which, I was there today to pick up my car for custom performance enhancements I trusted them to do, and overheard a customer asking Gino to fix the noisy brakes that were just installed by another shop. Instead of jumping to make a quick buck from a distressed customer who was ready to pay, however, Gino tested his car, confirmed the noise, and then advised him to first return to the other shop to request remediation. Gino told the customer that he welcomes the business, but the customer shouldn't have to pay someone else to correct the original shop’s mistake. Competent, skilled, knowledgeable, and efficient, owners Gino, Gino Jr. and the crew at West Side are honest car guys who take pride in their work and their business. I highly recommend them.
I was unsure who to use when my car needed repair. A friend suggested West Side Tire & Automotive. They are great. The work was done on time and they gave me a fair price. They didn't try to upsell or do other things to my car. Good honest service what more could I ask for. I highly recommend them. They are my car guys now.
Just brilliant. Gino and Gino Jr. Efficient. Honest and hard working. Saw them handle some awkward customers with the utmost patience and professionalism. Will be back.
