Our family has entrusted our cars to his care for about 10 years now. I'm happy with the quality service. I keep going back because he does a good job and he is trustworthy and that can be a rare thing to find these days. He has always dealt with us fairly and I am glad we can count on him.
I received a coupon in the mail for an oil change, and when I called I had to make an appointment. So, having made an appointment many days in advance, I was told when I arrived that I would either need to leave my vehicle, or wait an hour or more.
I can't speak for their repair skills, but the tone with which I was spoken to made it clear to me that they didn't want to perform a simple oil change, and didn't give a thought to sending me out the door dissatisfied. "I can't drop everything and change your oil just because you made an appointment a week ago" was what I was told.
I went around the corner to Midas where they were cheerful, changed the oil immediately, and even thanked me for coming. No coupon required for a $17 oil change. Rowe wants $29.95+.
If you want poor service and poor attitude, Richard Rowe is the place for you. If you just want your oil changed without hassle, I recommend going somewhere else.
Update 2 : The owner has bent over backwards to make my wife happy when she visits. They take great care of her now.
Update : My wife contacted Richard Rowe through e-mail and he called and talked to her. He was very sorry for the way his manager has treated his customers and is trying to make it right.
This is the experience my wife had with them,
I purchased four oil changes through Groupon. I called on a Thursday and asked if they could do an oil change the next day at 2pm. I was told yes, that would be fine. I arrived the next day and was told as I walked in the door, by Kerry Zacher, "I cannot fit you in today". I said, "I made an appointment yesterday. I don't live here, I live 30 minutes away. I am only in Bountiful once a week!" He told me they were really busy today and that Fridays are not good and earlier in the day is better. (I was thinking, "Okay, why didn't you tell me when I called yesterday and then made the trip today expecting an oil change?) The following Tuesday I made an appointment for the next day, Wednesday. I came Wednesday at 1pm and dropped it off expecting them to call in an hour or two. At 5:30pm I get a call that my vehicle is done. Having a vehicle not available all afternoon for an oil change is ridiculous!
2 months passed, we've been on a trip to the Midwest & we need another oil change--I called this week on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 morning and talked to Kerry, the manager. I asked if he could fit in an oil change on Wednesday at 11am. He said yes. I asked if it would be done by 2pm and he said yes. I arrived Wednesday and dropped off the vehicle at 10:50am and asked if it would be done by 2pm. He assured me it would be done.
At 2pm I realized it was time to go get the van because I needed to be back home for an appointment and it was 30 minutes away. I walked 15 min. with a 3-year old to go pick up the vehicle. When I walked up I could see that it was parked right where I had parked it, knowing it had not left that spot yet. I walked in, hopeful and saw my keys sitting on the counter on a blank paper. I pointed to the keys and said to a mechanic, "Those look like mine." :) He handed the invoice to the manager and he looked out and saw my vehicle hadn't been moved, looked into his garage and said, "We haven't done it yet, we've been full today." I could only bite my tongue I was so mad. He said it'll be 15 min. I sat down with my 3-year old and wrestled with him for 25 min. When I thought it was done, Kerry said, looking into the garage filling his water bottle up, "The oil is going in now." I thought, "Still?!" When the mechanic drove the vehicle to the front and gave me my keys, Kerry didn't apologize or anything. He just said I was good to go and that I didn't need to sign anything.
What is the point of making an appointment if there is no respect for the customers time? He is the worst manager of any business I have ever encountered.
Recant to Taylor Bingham. On the check engine light we told him it would cost him $45.00 to perform a diagnostic on his check engine light, we extract codes for free. There is a difference. he told us not to do anything. When his wife came to get the vehicle, she then told us to do the oil change. We did extract codes and told her what they were for free, we also loaned her a vehicle to drive while we worked on hers. I don't know why Taylor wrote a poor review. The way he treated us was out of line and uncalled for, his wife apologized profusely about her husbands behavior.
