Rip-off artists. If I could give them no stars I would. Took my car there recently to have suspicious noises checked. Was told upon initial check-in that there would be no fee for just listening to it and it would take a few minutes. Almost 2 hours later they come to me telling me that they figured out what the noises were and the fee would be 47.56. When I asked what the fee was for I was told that my transmission was half a quart low and they put it in for me so they had to charge me a service fee for that. No one ever asked if I wanted them to put it in and when leaving the garage the noises that they were supposed to check was worse than ever. Will have to take the car somewhere else now.
On 2/6/14, before buying my 1998 Ford Ranger, I asked to have a Buddy South mechanic check it out. He said it was OK. The charge was about $60.
On 5/12/14, I had Buddy South Automotive do the required annual inspection. It failed for upper and lower ball joints and a defective control arm. Repair cost was $775, including the $16 fee for inspection.
I put at most 1000 miles of mostly highway driving on the truck. How come these defects were not detected in February? I complained. No concession was made, only a feeble apology.
I related this to a retired Ford mechanic. He said that in his 30-year experience he has seen few failures of this type while the counter person asserted that it was quite common. The retired mechanic said that the analysis depends on how the testing was done. He doubted that it was done correctly and that I was probably ripped off. A $775 repair is not "OK"!
I'm very sorry to report this. Until now, I had the utmost respect for Buddy South Automotive. Now my confidence is shaken.
The service had to be the worse I have ever had. My daughter went to this location on last Friday because the car would not start and it would just shut off when it wanted to. The lady ripped my daughter off because she told us that she needed some stuff ASAP and she charged her over $400.00 for a starter and some light bulbs because she said that was what the issue was. We agreed to get that stuff fixed at the time because we thought that she was a good place to deal with. About an hour after paying for the repair the car broke down on the side of the highway. This all happened on a Friday evening so we spent another $200.00 getting the car towed back to them. On Monday I received a call from the young lady who runs the business asking why the car was back at the shop. I proceeded to inform her that the issue was not fixed and that we we were lied to about the starter being the issue and we needed answers as to why the issue is still persisting. She laughed and found it funny that we were coming to her with this situation. I asked her if she had a report that showed that the starter was the root cause issue for the car not working correctly. She informed me that no test exists at all to make that determination about the starter being bad. I told her that just the previous week we went to AutoZone and another reputable automotive shop and the test do exist and there was nothing wrong with the starter at the time we went. She then back pedaled and told me that she made her decision not based on any report but because she had been in business for 38 years and that was her reasoning, she then told us that the check engine light is on and that she can check that and that may be the reason that the car is acting up. I stated to her that we felt wronged in this whole situation and she insisted that she could replace some sensor and it may fix it and it would cost another $100 or so. I told her that I did not feel that we should have to put anymore money in this after we were bamboozled into paying all this money to her so far. I asked her to take a couple of days and test drive the car to see if she could reproduce the issue and also we needed to see some report that the starter was indeed bad and she agreed. I called her back on yesterday 9/19/2013 and she said yeah I was going to call you about your car its going to be another $200 for this part we put in and a diagnostics that we ran several times. I was furious because she did not even call us and get approval for any further repairs on the car. She added that she ASSumed that it was ok to go ahead and perform the services. She said well I can just take everything off the car because I was doing you a favor. I just want everyone to know that this place WILL rip you off and not even fix your car STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AND SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am reporting this to the BBB, WTVR, WWBT, WRIC I am not happy and I am taking this as high as I can and I want all my money back as well.
Went in to get my hinge pins and bushings installed on my '93 mustang. They quoted me only 2 hours of labor on the phone and I agreed to let them work on it. 4 hours later, I called them back and asked how it was going. They said they were still working on it. I asked them how much I owed so far and they told me that the price would only charge me for the 2 hours instead of 4 hours of labor. I also got my door locks fixed here a while back. Very honest, friendly and understanding people here. I LOVE Buddy South!
All of their mechanics are state inspectors. Military friendly.
